Military, Vets Not Laughing at Funeral Selfie

Two Wisconsin National Guard members recently learned the hard way that posting funeral selfies online could cause serious repercussions.

In February 2014, a photograph of 14 National Guard members clowning around a U.S. flag-draped casket appeared on social media. At the time, these individuals were in Arkansas receiving training in order to serve as part of a special military funeral honors unit — the group that performs solemn ceremonies, such as folding/presenting the American flag, at the funerals of service members killed in action or for honorably discharged veterans.

The image immediately triggered outrage among U.S. military veterans, veterans service organizations, military families and the public, and caused the National Guard to investigate the incident.
